It’s important to promote testing for Covid-19 in our senior facilities to detect asymtomatic carriers, because approximately 40 per cent of cases are transmitted by asymtomatic spreaders. So, a team or residents in my Independent Senior Living facility, devised and composed a wearable, reward tag that says: “I WAS TESTED for Covid-19. Let’s Stay Safe!” We also composed a letter of thanks with some amusing artwork, to be given to residents on the day of testing in our Health Center, along with the wearable tag to be worn with community pride. The testing was made available by our Executive Director and her Health Care team. I wrote the letter and inspired the testing, which says: “Dear Caring Fellow Resident,
Thank you for testing for Covid-19. Please wear this tag with pride to show that you care for our community’s well-being, having tested for others’ sake, and yourself, to discover that you are not an asymptomatic carrier for now.
Though the test shows you are not an asymptomatic carrier of Covid-19 or infected, for now, please realize that Covid-19 might be contracted at any time, especially if you do not continue to follow the mitigating protocol recommended by accomplished medical professionals and the Center for Disease Control.
1. Please continue to wear a mask over your nose and mouth when out of your apartment in common areas of our community, including halls and elevators. Remember that even if you are alone, someone might have passed leaving nano-aerosols in the air before you were there.
2. Please continue to follow hygienic precautions, washing your hands frequently, especially not touching your face and mask with unwashed hands. And, if possible wear glasses to cover your eyes.
3. Periodically disinfecting frequently touched surfaces of your home.
If we all follow these precautions through this difficult winter, with Covid-19 on the rise out there, we will all feel calmer and better protected. We will all have less anxiety. Enjoy life and be calm and grateful that Springpoint management, and Director Sue Lippy, have kept us safe, thus far, through these difficult pandemic times.
